Under the tutelage of the manor’s resident Seath Faolan, Selena, along with her best friend Cara, begin a mystical journey full of witchcraft, magical thrall spirits, and a magical inheritance she is just starting to understand—because Selena isn’t just a witch.

What a fun book! I really get the sense that these are the humble beginnings of something huge. Yukiko's mysteriousness hooked me, but Selena and Cara's bond and the story kept me. I love all the characters, but Cara is definitely my favourite. I'm really excited to read the 2nd book when it comes out.

This book has everything, drama, suspense, magic, an otherworldly challenge on top of being a teenager! I couldn't put it down once I started! Each character brings something to the book in a thoughtful way and is relatable, they aren't thrown into the book just because they are cool. Seath is my favorite character for many reasons but you'll have to read the book to find out why and get to know the other characters to find your favorite!!!

I don't normally read this kind of book but I'm probably going to start now. There is some slice of life elements but I found them refreshing rather than boring. Magic combat might be hard to follow for someone not used to the genre, but I have consumed a lot of anime and video games, so I could follow it easily. The ending definitely requires another book. I don't want to do spoilers. It isn't that long of a book. I just liked it. I really appreciate the pacing of the scenes. Good prose. Good voice. 5/5 for me.

The sequel was even better than the first. I really enjoyed seeing Selena grow, and the magical world around her is so interesting. The new villains have such an interesting history and without spoiling, their motivations are starting to become clearer. I can’t wait for book 3! Alice Alabaster sounds like a great future character.

Book 2 picks up right where the first left off, with Selena and Yukiko. Now that we know what Selena is up against the stakes feel really high, and the new villain is terrifying. It's great to see Selena growing up and I love her relationship with Kiran!

I couldn't wait to jump into this story again! I adore the characters and found the story compelling. It's fun to guess the next twist and turn and to meet new characters. The story is layering and taking us even deeper. I can't wait to see where the next one takes us!
